一、提出問(wèn)題 learn可以用作延續(xù)性動(dòng)詞嗎? 二、專家學(xué)者對(duì)這一觀點(diǎn)的看法 對(duì)于learn能否用作延續(xù)性動(dòng)詞有兩種截然不同的觀點(diǎn):一是learn不可以用作延續(xù)性動(dòng)詞,不可以和“for+若干時(shí)間”搭配用于完成體或完成進(jìn)行體;二是learn可以用作延續(xù)性動(dòng)詞,可以和“for+若干時(shí)間”搭配用于完成體或完成進(jìn)行體。 1.認(rèn)為learn不可以用作延續(xù)性動(dòng)詞,不可以和for+若干時(shí)間搭配用于完成體或完成進(jìn)行體的代表性語(yǔ)法專著有: (1) 劉國(guó)善在其主編的《英語(yǔ)動(dòng)詞用法詳解》(對(duì)外貿(mào)易教育出版社 1993年12月第1版)p23和其總主編、徐樹(shù)娟主編的《通用英語(yǔ)動(dòng)詞、動(dòng)賓舉行教程》(對(duì)外經(jīng)濟(jì)貿(mào)易大學(xué)出版社 2005年3 月北京第1版)p30: He has been doing/learning studying his lessons all day(long).一整天踏都在做功課/學(xué)習(xí)功課/研讀課業(yè)。(持續(xù)) 比較:可以說(shuō)How long have you studied English? For two years?(study屬于持續(xù)動(dòng)態(tài)動(dòng)詞,durative dynamic verbs)。不可以說(shuō)How long have you learned English? For two years? (井上),因learn取完成體形式時(shí),意指“學(xué)會(huì)”,屬限界動(dòng)態(tài)動(dòng)詞,terminative dynamic verbs。在不取進(jìn)行體或完成體形式時(shí),learn不可和表示持續(xù)時(shí)間的狀語(yǔ)連用。He has been learning his shorthand for ages and is still unable to put it to use. 他學(xué)速記學(xué)了很久了,但是仍然不能使用。(持續(xù)到現(xiàn)在而無(wú)效應(yīng)) 筆者注:然而上述提及的兩書(shū)分別在p28和 p34上卻把learn(學(xué)習(xí))定義“持續(xù)行為動(dòng)詞(durative activity verbs)”,豈不是互相矛盾? (2)【日】井上義昌著《英美語(yǔ)慣用法辭典》(吳拓 楊應(yīng)鵬譯 湖南師范大學(xué)出版社 1991年5 月第1版)p827:很多學(xué)生將How long have you studied English? 的study講作learn,這種場(chǎng)合用learn時(shí)不合適的。learn 指學(xué)習(xí)之后“記住”,所以要講的是How much have you learned?/ How many words have you learned?則可以,而How long...?之后用learn從意義上講是與之不相稱的。 (3).【日】田中茂范等編、楊文江等編譯《外研社英漢多功能詞典》(外語(yǔ)教學(xué)與研究出版社 2008年7月第1版)p1190:study 表示“學(xué)習(xí)知識(shí)或技術(shù)”這一行為和過(guò)程,而learn則重點(diǎn)強(qiáng)調(diào)“是否掌握了所學(xué)內(nèi)容”這一結(jié)果。因此,類似下列情況不用learn:Although I have been studying English for five years, I cannot speak it well. 我已經(jīng)學(xué)了5 年英語(yǔ),但還是說(shuō)得不好。 2. 認(rèn)為learn可以用作延續(xù)性動(dòng)詞,可以和“for+若干時(shí)間”搭配用于完成體或完成進(jìn)行體的代表性語(yǔ)法專著有: (1) 宋慕法編著《英語(yǔ)時(shí)態(tài)漫談》(上海譯文出版社 1985年10月第1版) p67:其他表示持續(xù)活動(dòng)的動(dòng)詞如..., learn,... He has learnt /has been learnt English for a long time. P68: How long haveyou been learning English? How long haveyoiu learnt English? He has learnt English for three years. (2) 鄭樹(shù)棠編著《英語(yǔ)動(dòng)詞與時(shí)態(tài)》(廣西人民出版社 1986年8 月第1版)p136:表示持續(xù)動(dòng)作的動(dòng)詞帶有一段時(shí)間的狀語(yǔ)用于完成時(shí),可以表示動(dòng)作的持續(xù),這些動(dòng)詞用于完成進(jìn)行時(shí)也表示動(dòng)作的持續(xù),所以在這種情況下,這兩種時(shí)態(tài)所表示的意義沒(méi)有根本的區(qū)別。試比較: B. (a) How long have you learnt English ? 你學(xué)英語(yǔ)多久了? (b) How long have you been learning English ? 你學(xué)英語(yǔ)多久了? (3) 薄冰編著《英語(yǔ)時(shí)態(tài)》(開(kāi)明出版社 保定2000年3月第2次印刷)p226:She’s been learning English since she was a child. 她從小就學(xué)英文。 (4) 北京大學(xué)英語(yǔ)系編《英語(yǔ)常用詞用法詞典》(商務(wù)印書(shū)館2003年1 月修訂第2版)p508-509:這兩個(gè)詞(筆者注:指learn 和study)都可作“學(xué)習(xí)”講,有時(shí)可以互換。例如:How long have you been learning (sdutying ) English? (5) A. J. Thomson and A. V. Martinet在其編著的A Practical English Grammar即《牛津?qū)嵱糜⒄Z(yǔ)語(yǔ)法》(第三版修訂本) (陳則源、夏定雄譯 外語(yǔ)教學(xué)與研究出版社 1992年1月北京第6次印刷) p268和A Practical English Grammar (Fourth Edition) (外語(yǔ)教學(xué)與研究出版社 1991年2月第1版)p173上指出:An action which began in the past and is still continuing or has only just finished can, with certain verbs, be expressed by either the presenmt perfect simple or the present perfect continuous. Verbs which can be used in this way include ..., learn, ...(彭義、李陽(yáng)譯:在表達(dá)一個(gè)在過(guò)去開(kāi)始而現(xiàn)在仍在繼續(xù)活剛剛結(jié)束的動(dòng)作時(shí),某些動(dòng)詞既可以用現(xiàn)在完成時(shí),也可以用現(xiàn)在完成進(jìn)行時(shí)。這樣的動(dòng)詞有...,learn, ...) How long have you learned English? 你學(xué)習(xí)英語(yǔ)多久了? How long have you been learning English? (譯文同上) (6) L.G.Alexander著 Longman English Grammar (Twentieth impression 2003)9.33.1上指出:Some verbs like learn, ... naturaly suggest continuity and often occur with perfect progressives with since or for and also in questions beginning with How long? ( 雷航譯:某些動(dòng)詞,如learn(學(xué)),……本身就有持續(xù)性,故常用于帶有since 或 for的完成進(jìn)行時(shí);以及以How long開(kāi)頭的疑問(wèn)句中。) (7). N D Turton and J B Heaton主編的Longman Dictionary of Common Errors(Eleventh impression 2003)p196:How long have you been learning Italian? (8). R. A. Close 著的A reference grammar for students of English ( Eighth impression 1985 Printed in Hong Kong): P15: He has been learning English for four years. p250:We’ve been learning this language for ten years (and are still learning it.) I’ve been learning Russian since we last met and have made some progress in it.
