關閉窗口 談談名詞majority的“數(shù)”
1. 表示“大多數(shù)（人）”，具有復數(shù)意義，單獨用作主語，謂語可用單數(shù)（側重整體）或復數(shù)（側重個體）。如：
The majority agree(s) with me. 大多數(shù)人同意我的意見。
The majority were [was] against the plan. 大多數(shù)人反對這個計劃。
但是，若表語是復數(shù)，則謂語通常也要用復數(shù)。如：
The majority are young people. 大多數(shù)是年輕人。
2. 用于“the majority of+復數(shù)名詞”且作主語時，其謂語動詞通常用復數(shù)。如：
The majority of us lads are professional drivers. 我們這幫小伙子大多是職業(yè)司機。
有時還可將其中的定冠詞改為不定冠詞。如：
A [The] majority of people seem to prefer TV to radio. 大部人似乎喜歡看電視而不喜歡聽收音機。
3. 按傳統(tǒng)語法，the majority of通常與可數(shù)名詞復數(shù)或具有復數(shù)意義的集合名詞連用，但在現(xiàn)代英語中有時也可與不可數(shù)名詞連用。如：
The majority of the work has been finished. 大部分工作已完成。
The majority of the damage is easy to repair. 這次的損害大部分容易補救。
但這種用法比較少見，學生在應試時宜慎用。
4. 用于 in the majority, 意為“占大多數(shù)”。如：
Men are in the majority in their college. 在他們大學里男生占大多數(shù)。
In the general population, right-handed people are in the majority. 在一般人中，慣用右手的人占大多數(shù)。
比較：in the majority of cases 在大多數(shù)情況下。如：
In the vast majority of cases, customers get their money back. 在絕大多數(shù)情況下，顧客都獲得退款。
